Bethany Coulthurst BA MA MCIL
I have been working as a translator since 2017, and over the years have honed my specialism in the technical sector through experience and training, and have also developed specialisms in IT and e-commerce. My passion for art in my spare time means that I can render translations as unique as the pieces they describe. Translation allows me to combine my passion for languages, puzzles and learning and I work hard to ensure that my translations are accurate, informed and clear.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
My language journey started with German lessons in secondary school, which I continued into A-level and then on to university, where I also picked up Chinese ab initio. I graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2016 with a BA in Applied Languages and then continued on to an MA in Translation Studies at the University of Birmingham. After graduating in 2017, I started working in-house at a translation agency, and eventually launched my freelance business in 2020.
Over my career I have worked on a variety of tasks in the translation process, including TM alignment and termbase creation, source evaluation, human translation, MTPE, translation editing, English proofreading, English conversion and localisation, LSO and quality evaluation.

Having worked as a translator for seven years and holding a BA in both of my source languages and an MA in translation, my qualifications exceed the requirements of ISO 17100:2015, the international standard for translation quality. I am also certified in machine translation post-editing (MTPE) and have six years of post-editing experience.
